Meet Dr. Engel
Philip S. Engel, DMD
Dr. Engel received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, his D.M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, and his M.S. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. He completed a general practice dental residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston, Texas, and his oral surgery internship and residency at University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey – UMDNJ.
Dr. Engel has been in private practice in oral surgery since 1986. He is currently Chairman, Department of Dentistry and Chief, Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery and Chief, Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is on the faculty at the Middlesex County College School of Dental Hygiene.
Dr. Engel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the American College of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is past president of the New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 2003 – 2004 and of the Middlesex County Dental Society 1998 – 1997. He is past president of the New Jersey Dental Society of Anesthesiology 1992 – 1994 and currently serves on its executive committee.
He has authored several papers and lectured on distraction osteogenesis for oral reconstruction.
